This Week's Question of the Week: "What do you like most about your job?"
It was really good to have been able to participate in this marathon of weekly reports, though I'll admit I haven't been quite as active with my contributions to the CropSpotters program during the season. I wasn't able to send you any photos of wild animals this time, but I'm sure I'll have another opportunity…
Right now, we're following the corn crop. We're doing corrections to the soil on half of the farm.
As for the weather, things are not at all satisfactory. The dry weather started earlier than usual, and the crops are really hurt by the lack of water.
Yields, meanwhile, were similar to last year's-which is around 48 bushels per acre.
Plans for next year are an unknown right now. I haven't bought a single input. Nor have I decided how many acres for each crop. Those are things I'll do once the U.S. crop is better defined.
To me, being a producer is like a habit or an addiction-it's not something I do in order to become a big businessman.
I guess that's it. It's been a real pleasure to take part in CropSpotters this season!
