This Week's Question of the Week: "What do you like most about your job?"
Weather instability continues, after a rainy weekend. With steady winds the rest of the week, things should get better-though quite cold. In fact, frost is threatening. Not my favorite weather-but that's Rio Grande do Sul state!
We've still got some soybean harvesting going on. As I've said, it's staggered like the planting was. And yields appear to be within forecast, though at the lower end of the forecast. It's the same with rice. Prices in a free fall.
Since the soybeans were so bad-didn't have a chance, even-we're waiting to see how the corn does. Then we'll see about trying soybeans again. After all that's what the farmer does: plants, plants, and plants!
Meanwhile, inputs have gone down a bit, since nobody's been buying. At planting time, I'll bet, they'll come roaring back like nobody's business!
On your question, I'm not really a farmer, so I can't say what the pleasure of farming is. But I'm a rancher, and I like working with big animals-even though there are no big profits from that business!!!
